William Wyatt Bibb was the first governor of Alabama, appointed by President Monroe as governor of the territory in 1817 and elected governor of the state of Alabama in September 1819. He fell from a horse and died July 10, 1820. Following his death, his brother and president of the Alabama Senate, Thomas Bibb became acting governor. |
