This box contains the following books: 1) Autograph book of Carrie A. Saunders; 1881-1883; this book has signatures and notes to Carrie A. Saunders from her friends and family. 2) John Withers Clay Receipt Book; 1856-1859. This appears to be a mixture of household accounts as well as accounts of the Huntsville Democrat. -Condition: Poor, cover is missing. (12/17/2018 sjw) 3) Prayers for the use of Families, by William Jay. This is a book of prayers used by C. C. Clay while in prison at Fortress Monroe 1865. It has a note from his wife in the front cover, and his notes written throughout. -Publisher: Leavitt & Allen, New York -Condition: Okay, cover is loose. (02/25/2022 jcm) 4) The English Version of the Polyglott Bible. C. C. Clay signature is on the inside cover. - Publisher: Key and Mielke, Philadelphia, 1831 -Condition: Poor, cover is loose and warped. Front pages are very fragile. (02/25/2022 jcm) 5) I Would not Live Alway, by W. A. Muhlenberg. Green cover, 6.5x4x.5'. The front cover explains this was a gift from Major Muhlenberg to C. C. Clay while imprisoned at Fortress Monroe following the end of the American Civil War. -Publisher: Anson D. F. Randolph, New York, 1866 6) Letters from Alabama, by Anne Royall. Inside cover is signed John Rison Jones Jr. Huntsville, Alabama, 1947. 9x 5.5x1". -Condition: Okay, some pages have been torn and taped years ago.
