Clement Comer Clay served as the 8th governor of Alabama (1835-1837) and served in the state legislature as well as the United States Senate. His son, Clement Claiborne Clay served in the Unites States Senate from 1853 to 1861 and Confederate Senate from 1862 to 1864. Clement Claiborne's wife, Virginia Tunstall Clay-Clopton was active in the fight for the right to vote for women. |
